Metlam Australia was proud to provide a range of commercial washroom accessories and disabled compliant products for the Charles Darwin Centre project.
Located in the heart of Darwin’s city centre, the Charles Darwin Centre is a landmark development helping shape the city’s future as a key business hub for Northern Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
This striking 20-storey, lens-shaped tower—designed by DWP Suters in collaboration with New York-based Pei Cobb Freed—adds a bold sculptural presence to Darwin’s skyline. The design was approved by the Darwin City Council and Northern Territory Government despite its non-conforming elements, thanks to its strong planning outcomes.
The tower offers stunning views of the Darwin waterfront and features 1,200 sqm column-free floor plates, tailored to meet the needs of both Paspaley and government tenants. The heritage façade remains intact and now serves as the elegant shopfront for Paspaley Pearls.
Carefully positioned to reduce its impact on the streetscape, the building provides 15,000 sqm of commercial space. It is clad in high-performance glass and metallic panels, with horizontal sunshades that help reduce energy use in Darwin’s tropical climate—supporting its 5 Star NABERS Energy rating.
