Metlam Australia partition and cubicle hardware is designed with a range of safety and accessibility features to ensure the utmost safety of all cubicle and partition users.
Did you know that Metlam Australia lift-off door bumpers and hinges are fully equipped with a lift-off safety feature that allows immediate access to a locked cubicle or partition in the event of an emergency? Australian standards deem that all cubicles and partitions must have an emergency release feature built in, and Metlam Australia has designed this capability into our lift-off locksets, bumpers and hinges. Research conducted by the Metlam Australia team identified that in the event of an emergency within a cubicle, it’s most likely that the occupant could collapse unconscious onto the floor of the cubicle. With a traditional emergency release indicator, entrance to the cubicle would normally happen using the emergency feature on the indicator face to open the door from the outside of the cubicle. Metlam Australia studies have found that when this type of emergency occurs, there is an overwhelming possibility that a collapsed occupant would then block any attempt to open the inward swinging door using this feature alone. For this very reason, Metlam Australia Partition hardware is designed with lift-off capabilities that simply allow for the cubicle door to be lifted off its hinges to allow easy access to the occupant.
To do this position your foot under the door and place your hand on the top of the door.
Lift the door and when the door clears the hinges and bumper simply turn and move the door towards you and place it next to the cubicle entrance.
Metlam Australia's range of partition and cubicle slide lock sets are designed to provide access for all users, our slide locks have been deemed to meet AS1428.1 requirements for ambulant cubicles and can be easily operated by persons with dexterity issues, or vision impairment. The slide lock mechanism on the Metlam Australia Lock and Indicator Sets has been designed for a person with an ambulant disability and allows for operation with one hand. In addition, a person who has dexterity issues can operate the latch with the side of a hand or elbow and does not require fingers to clasp or turn the latch which is appropriate for a person who cannot grip.
Our slide locks are also equipped with raised and tactile arrows to indicate the required motion to operate the lock, for children and for those who are vision impaired.
Metlam Australia Slide lock sets also lead the way in providing a hygienic option to open the cubicle door with the ability to open and lock the cubicle by using elbows or forearms and not hands. Misuse and vandalism can be a huge concern in many commercial bathrooms so Metlam Australia's Toilet Partition Hardware has been designed to reduce the chance of occupants getting stuck in a cubicle due to misuse or vandalism. Metlam Australia Hardware has been designed so that the tongue within the locksets is stronger and more durable to resist bending and jamming. To compliment this the staple, which the tongue is inserted into to keep the door locked is designed to sheer before the tongue lock bends or breaks through the frontal. This design feature will minimise the risk of the occupant getting caught in the cubicle due to a bent lock tongue mechanism and limit the extent of the damage to the frontal.
